What I don’t understand is how this has such a good rating…??? It’s not good. It’s poorly written and not sexy in the least. I really don’t know why so many people enjoyed it.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Finally getting to read this… and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s great. Sure, there are some odd parts and I could have used a little more time with the two leads, but the world was set up so beautifully and suspense of everything during the last half of the book had me on my toes the entire time.
Feyre is an interesting lead, I liked being able to see the world through her exceptionally creative eyes. She always seemed in character and I appreciate that a lot. Tamlin was… fine. I don’t enjoy him much as a romantic lead, he’s a bit awkward and the circumstances of their relationship made him a little difficult to know and truly care about, but he makes a great leader and filled that roll in interesting ways. I personally liked the side characters such as Rhysand and Lucien better, I found them much more interesting. I’m hoping in the following books we see more about them.

Look, I love basically all of the themes in this book, praise kink, age difference, forbidden romance with the ex’s dad trope, all of that is great. But the characters… just sucked.
It was good at the beginning, quite sexy and made me excited to see where their relationship was going, but then things just turned ugly. Emerson wasn’t being a “daddy”, he was being a jerk. He used Charlie to try to get close to his son, he disregarded her feelings, when it came to communication they both SAID that it’s important but neither of them actually communicate with each other. There wasn’t any trust formed and there shouldn’t have been because neither were being honest about their wants and motivations. Emerson literally praised her for saying that as a sub her wants don’t matter. A sub’s wants do matter! A sub’s likes and dislikes and feelings have to matter to the dom! Otherwise, what the hell is the point?
I’m sad because I wanted to like this book and now I’m seriously disappointed. Emerson is not fit to be called Sir or be referred to as a daddy, just no.
The only reason it’s 2 ⭐️ instead of 1 is because the author does write well and that made it easy to get through the first half of the book. It wasn’t sluggish or boring or clunky, so good writing in that respect.

A Mate to Treasure by Riley Storm

The idea is this is interesting, I appreciate some shifters and vague magical references, but that’s kind of where my likes run out.
The romance is hard to buy. When the characters finally admit they have feelings for each other it feels pretty lackluster. I have no idea why either of them like each other people neither of them says why, not even to each other. I can get behind some fated mates but they need to at least like something about each other and be able to voice that, otherwise it feels empty and like they’re just lead by their genitals.
I didn’t like the spicy bits at all. It might’ve been just the fact that the way it was written doesn’t appeal to me or, more likely than not, it was because I didn’t really know anything about these characters. We didn’t really learn anything about them and thus I didn’t care about them. Asher is a rich dragon shifter with a complicated family, that’s literally all we know about him… we never even find out what he does for work. While Emma wasn’t any better as we only know that she was close to her grandfather and lives in his house. I can’t enjoy a sex scene with characters that I have zero emotional investment in.
The writing is a little bit awkward, like the way the characters speak doesn’t feel natural. Awkward writing I can ignore if I like the world and characters enough but it was hard to trudge through in this one.
The reveal about the grandfather was flat as hell. It didn’t match up to the level of guilt she was expressing, making the impact of the reveal feel empty.
While I really didn’t enjoy this book, I will keep reading the series to maybe find out about some unanswered questions from this book like what the things that came out of the portal was. I’m hopeful that this one just didn’t have good leads and the following books will be better. Fingers crossed!

Get In My Swamp by G.M. Fairy

What this book had going for it was the sex, the humor, and the Shrek references. It’s not ground breaking or deep, just kinda hot and kinda funny. An easy read.
