Look, I love basically all of the themes in this book, praise kink, age difference, forbidden romance with the ex’s dad trope, all of that is great. But the characters… just sucked.

It was good at the beginning, quite sexy and made me excited to see where their relationship was going, but then things just turned ugly. Emerson wasn’t being a “daddy”, he was being a jerk. He used Charlie to try to get close to his son, he disregarded her feelings, when it came to communication they both SAID that it’s important but neither of them actually communicate with each other. There wasn’t any trust formed and there shouldn’t have been because neither were being honest about their wants and motivations. Emerson literally praised her for saying that as a sub her wants don’t matter. A sub’s wants do matter! A sub’s likes and dislikes and feelings have to matter to the dom! Otherwise, what the hell is the point?

I’m sad because I wanted to like this book and now I’m seriously disappointed. Emerson is not fit to be called Sir or be referred to as a daddy, just no.

The only reason it’s 2 ⭐️ instead of 1 is because the author does write well and that made it easy to get through the first half of the book. It wasn’t sluggish or boring or clunky, so good writing in that respect.
