This one wasn’t as taut as the last few, and rambled in places, but I guessing some of the rambling will lead into other books of the series. The plot hinges on something pretty far out, even for this series, but Pendergast is dauntless in his pursuit to unmask the murderer, and Preston&Childs pack the pages with abundant twists and turns.

This book was far better than the other few books I've read by Preston and Child. I find that the newer books start really well and keep my interest far better. The cases are always interesting! Especially this one.

Another great book in the Pendergast series! I’ve been really impressed with this series and the writers. Preston/Child have tackled lots of different plots and they have all worked so far.
This book in the series, [b:Brimstone|136637|Brimstone (Pendergast, #5; Diogenes, #1)|Douglas Preston|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1369943498s/136637.jpg|1369951] starts off with a charred body found in a Long Island estate. The questions about the death seem to involve evil forces with the smell of brimstone in the air and a hoofprint scorched into the floor.
Did Satan really kill this man?!! Well, read this book to find out.
This book travels from Long Island to New York City and then to the historic and ancient city of Florence, Italy. I loved all the details of the city of Florence along with the art and history references.
I enjoyed where the authors took the character of Vincent D’Agosta in this book along with giving more family history on Aloysius Pendergast. Laura Hayward from [b:Reliquary|39030|Reliquary (Pendergast, #2)|Douglas Preston|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1386922100s/39030.jpg|65004] was also in the book. I really love this character and hope to see more of her in the future!
If you enjoy thrillers, horror or suspense, then this book and series is right up your wheelhouse! I highly recommend it!

lol at hayward making claims that she’s a christian and “tries to be a good one” but then going around proving very blatantly otherwise.

This one leaves you hanging until the very last few words. Another complex, gruesome novel that grabs you and doesn't let go...

What a fun book to read! I just noticed that I read #1 and #5. Oops! More excuses to check out the rest of the books in the series. This one features a few of the same characters from Relic. I am really digging the Aloysius Pendergast character. He is one smooth guy. Pendergast is a pretty smart fellow and the reader winds up learning all sorts of things, which is always a plus for me! Part of the book takes place in Italy and totally makes me want to book a vacation soon!
Mystery, thrills, and mysterious "devilish" deaths are abound in this exciting novel.

Okay, this is getting really good! I thought that this book showed a little bit more of Pendergast's action hero side, although he was never a wimp. But with him crawling through laser beams using a cigarette, and sneaking around creepy castles--well, it was just plain cool. I have been trying to read this series slowly, so I can savor it more, but after finishing this one, I can't wait to read the next one. Without revealing any spoilers, you do end up with a cliffhanger of sorts. Agosto is also back and I can't wait to see what he does with his life next. Smithback was not in this book (except in reference), but I am willing to bet the next installment will have him and Harriman in all sorts of conflict! If you haven't read this series yet and you're a fan of mystery, I don't know what you've been waiting for! Go back to the beginning and get started. :D
