An excellent story, full of heart, humour, and a healthy dose of Victorian social commentary.

It's classic Dickens, so I can only give this so high a rating. The man sure loves his descriptions of food and fog. But it's shorter than A Tale of Two Cities, so it was palatable.
But it was interesting to read the original and see how movie adaptations have altered it (or not). I was also surprised to find a very spirited first/third-person narrator. It was definitely not something you see in modern books. It was interesting, in fact, to read this and know how much would not fly by modern standards.

Truly a masterful tale of redemption and self-discovery, filled with Dickens' wit and rich prose. This story captures the essence of Christmas as a time for reflection, kindness, and connection. Dickens brings Victorian London to life with vivid descriptions, making the atmosphere feel both chilling and magical.
This short but impactful story has rightly become a cherished classic, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone, regardless of the season!

I first read this classic Christmas tale during my freshman year in high school (a requirement for all) and then they took us to see the stage production, which is put on at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis every holiday season. I decided to reread, or rather listen to, it again and it is still as good today as it was then. I just love the fact that the story shows how love and generosity are what are truly important in life, not money or selfishness. As Tiny Tim says, "God bless us, everyone!"

4.5 — such a heartwarming, wholesome read for this time of year and a reminder of the importance of being kind and grateful for what one has. this was my first tentative dive into dickens’ work and i can already safely say i’m in love with his writing style!
