I am surprised about how similar the movies are to the book. I really enjoyed this classic Christmas story! :)

This was cute, but not amazing. I enjoyed it though! I probably would have enjoyed it more if I didn't already know the story like the back of my hand, but overall a nice classic Christmas read for Christmas Eve.

Second review: my seasonal reread perfect to make my goal! Hugh Grant audiobook hell yes.

First review: As striking, witty and harrowing as I remember. Such excellent Christmas reading, I still did hear the iconic lines in Neil Gaiman's voice after the wonderful NYPL recording.

Definetly not a fans of Dickens' writing style, but I feel that this book is the exception. The story has been told so many times every christmas that it's really hard not to love it.

I remember first reading this story in the 8th grade. Mostly I remember the line where the author states that he's in the spirit, standing next to your elbow - it gave my 14 year-old self chills! Before that, I vaguely remember seeing a black and white film version that I was probably too young to be watching. The Ghost of Christmases Yet to Come apparently shoves Scrooge into his own grave, and he gets a good look at the Ghost's face. It scared the crap out of me!
Several years went by before I read it again & fell in love with the story. Several more years have gone by since then, and have read it yet again. I think this might become a Christmas tradition, to re-read A Christmas Carol, I've enjoyed it so much.
Personally, I find the Ghost of Christmas Present to be the most disturbing, because he keeps Ignorance & Want hiding beneath his clothes, at his feet - the dark side to Christmas cheer; the suffering that goes on, despite the warm sentiments of the season.
A wonderful story, reminding us of what the true Christmas spirit is really about - warmth, & giving, & being with loved ones. Amen!

2023 - It's been a few years since I've read A Christmas Carol (I found some other Christmas stories I just had to read), but the story has lost none of its power. I'm going to have to re-start my Christmas tradition of reading it every Christmas. I've missed it.

It's interesting to read the original version, both to appreciate the story in its own day and age, but also to see the changes in all the visual adaptations since. Still a wonderful story to inspire growth and claim redemption as real!
