Unfortunately, I just got bored with this. This book is very long and there are a lot of spots (at least in the part that I read) that I wish had been more concise to get through the more monotonous aspects of the story more quickly. This book is meant to be more fluff that anything else, though, and I didn’t love the characters enough to want to keep going.

i was not vibing with the main character at all. what i learned reading this is that i really need to like at least 1 character or else i’m not going to make it through a book. since mo ran hates everyone but shi mei (and i didn’t really like shi mei) it was hard to like anyone. i wanted to like this book since people who like it speak of it so highly, but i think i need to give it a second shot when i’m feeling more patient.

i may come back to this book, but i realized how much i was dreading picking this book back up after i read the first couple of chapters and thought i should just shelve it for now. i didn’t like the main character (you’re not meant to) but i have a hard time even empathizing with him. it’s a me problem, i know.

i like this book so much more than wings and ruin. it's a placeholder bridge book between wings and ruin and silver flames, but if you go in knowing that it isn't so bad. i've heard a lot of people are really down on this book for being plotless fluff but, honestly, i'm only reading these books because i got attached to the characters and this book gave me more of them sooo... i'm eager to read more about cassian and nesta in the next book.
