This is my Shadowhunters. Has a quirky bff who is the only mortal, is set in New York around somewhat of an elite club where people are always battling. Where honestly wouldn’t be shocked if the love interest’s best friend/right hand man was in love with him and (SPOILERS KINDA) protagonists has a dead family. But I say this having never read the books only the tv show.
