A lot people have a issues with how the events of this book played out. But I personally don’t have any of those stipulations. Yes, the events in this book will turn your insides hollow and it might hurt because you love these characters and their pain is your pain. I don’t think that is a bad thing. But I think this book is an excellent edition to the Inheritance Games trilogy.

I think my soul died with this book. ( In a good way). I need at least a year to emotionally recover from this book. Jennifer Lynn Barnes put crack in this book because I finished it in 6 hours and still need more.

Percy Jackson is the book that got me into reading and it is the book I will always say is the my favorite. No other series quite lives up to the wholesomeness and the fun that is Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and all of the other wonderful cast of characters we meet in the Riordanverse.

The book is utterly filled with intrigue and mystery just as the summary suggest. Every time you feel like you finally get answers you’re only left with more questions soon after. The tensions between all the characters is so exciting to read about as well. Although some of the relationships between the character’s are a little on the nose, I never found it a huge problem.

I have a love-hate relationship with these idiots. An adorable story and an easy read to be sure. But I wanted to burn this book lovingly.

Updated Review: 1/10/24

Anyone who has read or watched Xianxia or Wuxia would be familiar with the themes in this book. Cultivation, Qi, Gods, Demons, Yin, and Yang.

And even if you are not Amélie Wen Zhao does a wonderful job introducing her world to the reader.

The book is a dual POV Chinese fantasy novel following the journey of Lan and Zen as they traverse the world of the ancient art of practicioning, in a land long stolen by invaders. Lan and Zen have so much heart to them, and their past is as much as a mystery to us as it is to everyone else around them. As we follow along their journey we get bits and pieces of a lost ancient world and a secret dark history locked away.

The characters have so much heart to them and even though we stay with Zen and Lan for the majority of the book, the other characters introduced are just as ✨golden✨.

Zhao has created one of the most beautiful Chinese Fantasy Worlds I have ever seen.
