Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors by Piers Paul Read

Interesting that the cannibalism wasn't the grossest part.

Seriously though, these people are unbelievable!

The book was broken up into different parts, so it interwove the survival story with srories of the parents trying to find their boys. It would have been more interesting if we just got the survival story. The parents' stories kind of dragged.

I didn't think this was unbelievable, but it definitely kept my attention and the did download some of the other books in the series.

It started slow, but sped up halfway through. I thought there was too much down time after all the action.

I love how caring and respectful they were of one another. Each MC was so fun and lovable. It really was a joy to follow their story! There's great character development and disabilty rep, and it was wonderful to see that instant connection followed up by them actually getting to know each other before all the I love yous.

I don't normally like epilouges, but this one was so pure and heartwarming.

I was hoping for something to live up to The Last Letter. This was good, but didn't quite get there for me because I don't really enjoy the tropes used. It is not so heartbreaking either.

There was not room on the door!

Her age at the beginning really confused me. From the context it seemed like seemed like she was a very small child, however the voice was very very mature. I just couldn't imagine a child having those thoughts and speaking the way she does.
----
Wait. Why did Jane fall in love with Mr. Rochester? He's mean and rude and 30 years older than she is and he refers to Adele as 'it'.

The fortune teller thing was just weird.

I must have wrinkled my nose in disgust a hundred times because of how he spoke to her.

Why does he call her Janet?

I understand that help for mental health was not a thing in the nineteenth century and that the woman was violent, but it seems really cold hearted to just lock her up and pretend she never existed.

He was actually Mad the she rejected him after learning he was married?

And then he tried to explain himself, but he just sounded like a bratty child who didn't get his way so he just pretended his problems didn't exist.
----
After Jane left Mr. Rochester I had a brief moment of hope that they were not end game, but that disappeared when she discovered she had family.

It's crazy to me that she started to voice her dislike of Sinjin because of how he treated her. But Mr. Rochester treated her the same way!

----
Romance in 1847 was severely lacking. Why is this so revered today? I can't name one good thing about this story. Isn't it time that we as a society hold up something featuring good people who treat others with kindness and respect?

Yes. Jane is a great character and she was ahead of her time, but times have changed. I don't think this is relevant anymore.

I don't normally like second chance romances, but this book is wonderful and slow burn and swoony. This story is different because the MCs never were together in the past, there were only feelings, so we aren't just dropped into this situation and told that these people used to be madly in love with each other. We went through the journey with Lo and Wes.

This def gave me the warm and fuzzies! I liked that each character was completely honest, there were no secrets or miscommunication.

It was great how Seb stood up for Maddie and encouraged her not to give in or be a pushover, but it wasn't overbearing.

It was really refreshing that there was no third act break up. There were no doubts between these two. And though the conflict presented itself, the characters pretty much ignored it.
