Another for-work read. I don't usually love novels in verse, but some of this poetry was way better than I expected it to be. It's also an important story for teenage girls to have.

Very sweet and thoughtful book that any teen will be able to relate to. Themes include teen pregnancy, college admissions, absent father, racial discrimination, and income inequality.

Prose was weird and juvenile, characters were iffy. I liked it, I think.

The overambitious plot meandered a bit. Author is noticeably Online and winks this to the reader a few times, which felt... weird. Is this a fanfiction, technically?

Fun prose, though, and I liked the characters.

Everything that made the first book interesting was lacking in this one. Plot felt forced and hastily jumbled together.

Super fun read!
Typical Gary Stu dry humored male protagonist, but he was likeable. This book would've benefitted from more length. I wanted to know more about other attempts at colonization, more about the creepers, more about the duties of an expendable... Very much looking forward to ten more deaths in the film.

Reread! Collins's symbolism is at its best here. It'd be so easy to phone it in and make a boring prequel, but she didn't.
