Arrival by A.G. Wilde
5.0
This series has the potential to be one of my most favorites. It’s just that damn good!
The world building is great and the mood is immediately set. It’s dark, depressing, and you can really feel how hopeless the human women feel after the alien invasion. It all just pulls you right in. This might just be a me thing, but I really love dark books like this where the stakes are obviously high and death is right around the corner. It makes those moments of victory feel that much more meaningful.
Adira is a great lead to start off with as shes believably terrified but brave in her own right. She fights for her life and the lives of those around her. I especially appreciate that she reacts very realistically. She has moments of bravery, but she’s mostly terrified of what’s happening around her. Her bravery only comes when the situation changes for her, when she’s given a little bit of hope, or if she needs to protect someone. That’s the kind of woman I want to know.
Fer’ro guides us into the mind of the Vullan very well, making my feel for them and their experiences as well as want to understand them. I love aliens that FEEL alien, even if they’re human like. His anatomy is human like but with quite a few obvious changes. His tongue… oh boy. Marvelous. He’s also a very loyal and protective individual, stern and practical in the face of danger and when dealing with the women. He’s very smart and quite perceptive for an alien, being able to pick up on a lot of things even when he doesn’t fully understand. He just makes me fall in love with the Vullan and that’s exactly what a first male lead should do.
Definitely continuing this series! There is an over arching storyline, something I LOVE, so I’ll be happy to see how things go in future books.
