I was really surprised by this debut novel. I thought it was going to a basic story of growing up in a matriarchal family but NOPE. This is a beautiful, emotional representation of a female centric family in Memphis and the struggles and beautiful moments they individually go through. This is a moving story of the power of family and what it is like to be a woman in Memphis society throughout the years.
