I didn't know what to expect reading this. The writing is pheonominal, it made you feel like a part of this haunted family. Haunted by the men in their families history and by the clash of their cultures history, as in any cultures history the rich look down on the poor. It's a generational story told by the grandmother and her granddaughter. I'm not even sure I picked up all the metaphorical threads it was laying down at my feet, most likely under the quilt. I immediately want to reread it as I probably missed quite a bit knowing what I now know. I always find it impressive to tell such a great story in such a small novella. Its such a unique horror book unlike any I have read before, like your mother telling you she killed someone, it hits different than if a stranger told you that, and you might even help her hide this body.
