Barbarian Mine by Ruby Dixon

While I won’t say this is my favorite of the books so far, it’s really the most heartwarming. Rukh was a hard character to love, but he got there. Really the best parts of the book were all after the 1 year time skip, before that I was just getting through it… and after I was enjoying it the entire time. Even cried during Rukh’s internal monologue during the big hunt, it was beautiful to see him working things out in his head and really acting on his realization and emotions.
I like Harlow’s character a lot, she’s feisty but not as snarky and bad tempered as Liz, and she’s really smart but she’s also empathetic and in touch with her own emotions. Her empathy being what brings her closer to Rukh is the best, much better than just the khui’s insistence on sex being the driving force for their relationship. Like she wants to have sex with him for a while… but waits until the right moment, which in my opinion was the absolute right moment. Their bond was beautiful.
