Caveman Alien's Trap by Calista Skye
4.0
This is one of my favorites of the series so far, mainly because I enjoy the intellectual dynamic of the leads as well as the big plot surprise near the end. It does have some pacing issues, as it feels like things aren’t really happening until about 75% into the book. The caveman’s excuse of “I forgot” for the big plot point was dumb, as this particular caveman is shown to be very intelligent and motivated and the “I forgot” excuse doesn’t suit his character at that point. He himself is probably my favorite ml so far though.
Caroline is a fine fl, she talks a lot and is very smart herself, I believe she’s close to Delyah in that respect, she comes up with plans very quickly and handles herself in stressful situations realistically but she’s also able to step up and be brave when it matters. The author puts a note at the beginning that Caroline deals with depression, as someone who has suffered with it for most of my life I was looking forward to seeing how that was handled on this alien planet… and let’s just say I was disappointed. It’s a lot of mentioning it in the past but not really showing the effects it has on Caroline in the moment. The plot needed to move along of course and depression can slow people down so it probably wasn’t conducive to the plot the author was going for.
Good read if you enjoy this series which I do.
