Not what I was expecting. 

There's an interesting tangle of things happening. I really liked the alternating perspectives between granddaughter and grandmother. The way that magic is used is interesting too. Class warfare is very much the central theme here, along with exploring the idea of being trapped. It's bitter, creative and brutal, and doesn't overstay its welcome.

There's probably much more to sink your teeth into under greater depth of analysis.
