this was interesting. it wasn’t as vampire-y as i initially thought. the biggest takeaway for me was the common belief that unabashedly sexual women were considered more frightening than literal vampires in victorian england. that is insane to me. also, before reading this i didn’t realize that this was basically western christian propaganda that paints eastern customs and superstitions as evil. classic 1890s literature.
