This is a fantastic read! What makes this book great is really the characters, more so than the story itself, thought when things are actually happening the story is interesting too.

Our male lead, Arcanthus, is prideful and arrogant, but he’s just so entertaining! His boastful nature does him well because he’s such a smooth talker, very charismatic. He’s also sweet to Sam and patient with her, which I loved considering she needed the patience. He’s a perfect match for her. When the time calls for it he can also be serious and a good leader.

Samantha, our female lead, is sweet as all get out but also deals with a lot of issues due to the trauma she’s experienced in the past, mostly from her previous relationship. She’s nervous, unsure of herself, and needs help in the self esteem department. Thankfully Arc is there to just bury her in honest compliments which helps her gain her own confidence throughout the book. When she gets comfortable she’s witty and determined, trying hard to rebuild her life from scratch.

But my favorite character… was Drakkal. As you can see in my highlights I just adore his interactions with Arc. They’ve been the best of friends for many years and both find much pleasure in ribbing on the other. Drakkal’s teasing and the way he pushes Arc, while also being aggressively protective and loyal to Arc, just make him a shining star in this book. I really can’t sing his praises enough. He’s like the only character that’s always making sense. He trusts Arc but he also knows him very well and isn’t afraid to call him out on his bullshit, one of the best qualities in a true friend. After a while of getting to know her, he’s also very good with Sam and they have a lovey dynamic, mostly bonding over their shared love for Arc, though in different ways of course.

(I’m really looking forward to Drakkal’s book but I don’t think I can handle another long book like this one for a while lol it takes a lot out of me)
