Wooed by the Kagethi Lord by Starr Huntress, Ava York

3.0

This couple is quite sweet and their interactions are really entertaining, though there are so cringe worthy moments between them… but it works for them. Things move rather quickly, making this an easy read. I enjoy when a story doesn’t lag as it’s easy for me to stay in it.

Karr is a prideful asshole… with a sweet side. He clearly wants approval, he wants to be loved and adored and for no one to see fault in him. This gets in his own way quite a bit though. He’s also a bit nearsighted in regards to those he should trust, making him do stupid things. When on his own he’s able to work through things relatively well, especially when he takes his sister’s advice, but it can take him time to get there due to his pride.

I appreciate that things are lighter in this book, the issues mostly social and emotional rather than political. Still they have trouble communicating, which was an issue in the last book.

The sex scenes were fine, but I would have enjoyed the first one a lot better if they’d talked nicely to each other more beforehand. Again, just a bit more communication would be great.

Jennifer is a little… dumb. She gets tricked very easily and I can’t really tell if she’s just an airhead at heart or if she’s really just stupid. She’s clearly very self conscious and has things to work through, but she seems to expect Karr to fix her issues for her instead of doing the work herself. Being in a good relationship doesn’t automatically mean everything is all flowers and sunshine from then on out, each person has to continue to grow and better themselves individually as well as together. It takes work… and Jennifer seems afraid of this work, like she thinks the only way not to get hurt is to be in the perfect relationship with the perfect person. That’s not how any of this works.

My favorite character was Karr’s sister, Sakira. She’s a lovely person that works as a voice of reason for both her brother and his mate.

I did enjoy this one better than the first, mainly just because this couple makes me laugh a lot, but it’s still lacking in a few areas.
