Thorn's Dove by Carlotta Hughes
5.0
It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a book to this degree… but it was just that damn good.
Thorn is a delightful ml, with his determination and self confidence, he goes for what he wants and what he believes is right… with very little or even no hesitation. Confidence is sexy, let me tell you, but this man takes it to another level with all of his other qualities… his tenderness, empathy, hardworking attitude, and compassion just to name a few. As the prince of his people, he has a big heart that considers the needs of others almost instantly and backs it up with actual actions. With Ruth he grows as an individual, learning more about himself and what he wants. He never seems to stumble, just always going forward toward his goals.
Ruth is a woman who has seen hell and while she is cautious, she still has faith in people and wants to make a life within the small town she’s moved to. Things start out rocky for her, but much like her orc mate, she has an unyielding determination that makes her push through every obstacle. It’s wonderful to see a woman who really takes control of her own life and does what she wants to do. I also enjoy how she’s such a hippy and some of the things she seems to have taken from her time in the commune.
The story is told at a perfect pace, giving both leads plenty of time to get to know each other and giving the reader time to know them as well. Every romantic or steamy moment they shared felt earned on a way. Nothing was forced, nothing felt out of place, it all flowed. Even the main plot made sense, weaving into Ruth and Thorn’s love story perfectly. The world building is done very well, especially considering most of the time is spent on regular old earth in the 70s, but we did get time in Thorn’s world at the beginning which made me yearn for future books in that setting.
Fantastic read, loved this author’s writing style, I will definitely be reading more in this series.
