This book is full of trauma - transphobia and quietly abusive partners and a ton of religious trauma - but it's also so cathartic. Let's be honest, which of us religiously traumatized queers wouldn't have gotten some dark enjoyment out of it if our religious upbringing twisted our bodies along with our spirits and gave us unholy powers we could use to rain down retribution on those who broke us in the name of god? This story is angry and bloody and violently right. There are some really big feelings about religion, queerness and transness, and surviving the apocalypse, plus several twists, an autistic love interest, an interesting recently-post-apocalypse world, and a lot of fantastic body horror. All in all, very good on many levels.
