A massive shout-out to the content warning at the start of the book! I've never seen that before, and I absolutely love it. Including content warnings is essential, especially because the book contains heavier topics.

I relate to Hani more than I would like, as when I came out as bisexual a couple of years ago, everyone treated it as a stepping stone before coming out as gay. It's infuriating. Why can't we be who we want to be without all the stigmas around it?

I really loved the book. It was heartwarming and cute, although it dealt with a few heavier topics that I didn't understand fully. I am a white woman living in a primarily white community, my mum supports me through almost everything, and I know she wouldn't disown me for anything short of mur*er. However, the concept of parental abandonment is so foreign to me, and I can't fathom how a parent lets go of their own flesh and blood like that.


Overall, the book is fantastic, and I recommend it to absolutely everyone and their mother. I couldn't understand everything in the book, but I suppose that it would've been easy enough to translate it.

I have a question, though! In the book, they talk about Ishu's hair being on the shorter side, but both of the characters on my copy have longer hair. I see the edition listed here on Goodreads has Ishu with shorter, shoulder-length hair but yeah. It doesn't even matter, I just found it funny when I realized.
