MOOD: dark, adventurous, mysterious, tense, sad
TROPES: masked men, stalker, second chance-lite
GENRES: contemporary, superhero-ish, dystopia-lite
FAV QUOTE:
MAIN CHARACTERS: Presley and Deadeye
THE GOOD: The is an Arrow inspired romance that takes place in Darkling City. So if you don't like masked vigilante men taking on a city that falls apart while kind of stalking a doctor then it's not the story for you. This is a super quick read cause it's a page turner - but it did take a few chapters to get into the world. I love the dynamic and banter between Presley and Deadeye.
THE NEUTRAL: There are times where Presley is annoying and her actions directly affect others but she blames the bad guys. The spicy scenes were interested I just wish there were more of them cause it felt a little dry and the end of the book is pretty much all action - which I did also enjoy. There are a few other things I could have done without but are pretty standard romance book plot devices like third act breakups and some miscommunication.
THE MEH: I don't want to give any spoilers but there are a few things towards the end that don't make sense. One felt like a deus ex machine and doesn't track with what is referenced before. The other I think it was just word choice - saying "weeks" instead of days or hours - cause the timeline doesn't make sense. Also, not sure I'd call this dual POV - only 6.5 chapters were from Deadeye so that's not balanced and it might have worked better if maybe just the end was in his POV without it coming sooner?
CW provided by author: somnophilia, acrophobia, fear lay, violence, profanity, references to sexual assault, drug use, death, gore, assault, blood
DISCLAIMER: I received an advance review copy. This is my honest review.
