Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple

5.0

Another book that surprised me and deserves all the hype it has received. I have such a hard time with books and movies that receive SO MUCH HYPE. And while not all of them are the winners I am told they are by the masses, this one was just a stunning, brilliant, hilarious, quirky, jumble-of-positive-adjectives good book.
"My heart started racing, not the bad kind of heart racing, like I'm going to die. But the good kind of heart racing, like, Hello, can I help you with something? If not, please step aside because I'm about to kick the shit out of life."

Bernadette's humor and attack at life are not to be missed (no pun intended). Her darling daughter, Bee, is phenomenal—somehow Semple keeps her believably fifteen while simultaneously presenting her innocence and her precociousness. She's a wonderful mix of a human being and the stability in the plot created by the off-kilter duo of Bee and Bernadette is nothing short of hypnotic.

This is absolutely a must read. Must, must, must.
