Once again, I’m finding myself enjoying Wings of Fire more and more with each book, as I’m reminded of the plot and the things I loved my first time through. Starflight was my favourite character when I was ten, because as the anxious, quiet bookworm, he was the one I could relate to the most—and reading through his character development and seeing things from his perspective was just as fun and empowering now as it was eight years ago. In terms of plot, I legitimately had forgotten all the details of the conflict between the RainWings and the NightWings, so the mysteries Starflight was solving in The Dark Secret remained interesting and shocking, as well as the twist near the end. Though I definitely missed the rest of the gang—this novel in particular had less of them than any other—it was vital to the plot, and I appreciated Starflight getting the chance to develop on his own.
