This book is necessary and real.
Starr is one of the most realistic and one of the most brave main characters you’ll ever meet. Her feelings in the wake of Khalil’s death is so raw and poignant, I cried within the first few pages of the chapter.
The book explores so many important themes like systemic racism, passive aggressive racism, police brutality, family, grief , and death.
This book is also one of the most challenged and banned books in the U.S because of the contents.
But I think it’s all the more reason to read it.
