The Stalking Dead by Eva Chase
5.0
I related a lot to the female lead and everything she was going through, being fresh out of the mental institution and trying to lay low and appear “normal” when everyone thinks you’re “crazy”. It’s hard to prove people’s misconceptions false… Because no matter what you do, they just think you’re more crazy. Lily’s lie low and don’t fight back method may irritate some people, but that’s really how someone would realistically handle that situation… because you have it in your mind that fighting back is just gonna make it worse. Thankfully she does end up fighting back in the end, but she goes through a lot to get there.
All the guys are very distinctive, something I appreciate a lot in a reverse harem. My favorite is probably Kai, I just can’t get enough for smarty-pants who kicks ass. But Ruin it also great, a total sweetie who doesn’t take shit and all of his interactions are funny and enjoyable. I’m sure the next books will warm me up to the other guys as well. There was a decent amount of spice, not too much and definitely at an appropriate pace.
All of the supernatural stuff is wild and enjoyable, kind of kookie of course but that just made it more fun. I think you have to sort of just go along with things to enjoy it, at least that was my experience. Ghosts? Totally normal. Murder and body possession? Just another Tuesday. Frogs? Legit.
I look forward to what else is going to be revealed in the next books, since the main plot line and mystery is revealed only a little bit. The pacing was good for this as well, really makes you think and want to get to the bottom of everything. Mostly it’s Lily’s story, how she ended up in the mental hospital and why her family won’t talk to her, but the guys’ stories are hinted at and I’m sure it will be expanded upon in future books.
Really like this author’s writing style, each character’s voice was distinctive but meshed very well. You can tell this author knows what she’s doing.
