I would give this 5 stars because I absolutely loved it, I’m such a fan of the author and the drixonian universe, but the only reason I didn’t was because of all the errors. If it was just two or three, I’d overlook it, but there were a ton… which is disappointing as all it would take is an editor to make this perfect.
This is a great addition to the expanded drixonian universe, with new characters and aliens and an entirely new planet. I do believe it can be enjoyed without having read any previous series, but the enjoyment may not be the same.
This was full of action with appropriately timed reprieve, something I especially appreciate. It always felt like we were going somewhere even when the couple had to stop as rest, as their calm moments also expanded on their relationship and the world as a whole.
Kini is a very relatable character, with her nerves and anxiety but also strength when it counts. I felt like even in this short book we were still able to see growth from her. She’s also 32! I love a FL in her 30s. She was mature and logical.
Bastian works well as a first lead, with his strong protective nature and quick decision making. He exuded security, which Kini picked up on and was drawn to. He’s also very alien, more animal like than human like, which is fun for the monster lovers out there. The only thing I didn’t fully get behind on his appearance is his “two fingered hand”, it’s not mentioned if he has a thumb or not… but I’m guessing he does? Hard to tell.
This sets up an expansive story that I’m sure is going to be a fun ride, and I just can’t wait for more!
