Just a very odd but still enjoyable and quick read. It takes a little bit to get used to everything, feels a little uncomfortable to see humans treated so… animal like. The voice of the alien doctor just makes sense though, as though everything he experiences and explains feels appropriate for his particular character. The descriptions also make me think of dogs, though the author did say she was inspired by the breeding of rats.

Pick this one up if you want something more low stakes but also satisfying in its charm and weirdness. It does deal with darker themes, but I don’t think they’re detailed or prevalent enough to be a hindrance to the story.
