Glory, Glory, Glory! The true depth of Sutherland’s characterization and development shines through in The Hidden Kingdom as we finally get to see the world through the eyes of Glory, who’s always been presented as a lazy, uncaring, useless RainWing. It’s incredible how, as a reader, of course I know Glory isn’t like they say already from The Dragonet Prophecy and The Lost Heir, but I’m still surprised when Glory shows me so herself. It’s a testament to Sutherland’s writing that she weaves those stereotypes into her worldbuilding so throughly even the reader doesn’t remain unaffected. And Glory is really incredible in this installment, finally getting her chance to lead, and she does it wonderfully. And characters aside, the plot really picks up in this novel as well, with RainWings going missing, a mysterious monster killing off MudWings, and the discovery of several secret tunnels … leading to the opposite edge of the world. After all that happens and is set up in The Hidden Kingdom, I am very excited for the next two books of the series.
