This was my first Jess Lourey read, and it did NOT disappoint. This was a great read!

A woman found buried alive has evidence on her that directly links her to a cold case from 42 years earlier- one where 3 girls enter the woods, 2 go missing, and 1 comes out with her memory gone. Cold case detective Van Reed and forensic scientist Harry Steinbeck work together to connect the current crime with that of the past.

The characters in this book are great! I love the interactions and teamwork of Reed and Steinbeck. Steinbeck rooted in science, Reed relying more on

Plot was good, but a little difficult for me to keep everyone straight. Lots of players in this game. I liked that we got some significant-ish backstory on the main character because it helped me understand why everything went the way it did, but she was one of those characters that I couldn’t stand. Actually, there were a few a-hole characters in this book but that added to the ambiance.

Thank you Netgalley, Thomas & Mercer & Jess Lourey for the ARC of The Taken Ones.

Wow another winner by Jess Lourey. She never misses at grabbing my attention from the get go and this book was no different. A master at pulling at my heart strings and dealing with unsettling themes while providing a really entertaining thriller from start to finish.
