Here's what I learned from this book - always travel with the following: a compass, matches, detailed maps of any area I might possibly get lost in, an emergency blanket, warm clothes, Chapstick, and of course plenty of food and water

This is a tremendous story of survival and I became interested in this telling after reading the translated account from one of the survivors.

Very intense retelling of a 1972 airplane crash in the Andes mountains, and the tragedy of some and surviving strength of others. Strongly recommend the audio book.

Finally read this nonfiction book and its probably my favorite true story of all time. It's the crash of the Fairchild airplane in tbe Andes mountains in the 70s. Young Uruguayan boys, many in a rugby team, survive in the worst conditions for several months, having to resort to cannibalism to not die of starvation.

The depths if despair and hope in this story are colossal and inspirational. Honestly, idk how our culture isn't as obsessed with this disaster as we are with the Titanic. By the end, I wanted to give every person in this book a hug for what they went through.

Definitely a must read if you can handle some disturbing parts.

I read this book as a kid and recently saw the same paperback edition for sale so I grabbed it to reread it, as I all but forgot the story over the years. It is the true story of a Urguayan rugby team who, after their plane crashed in a remote section of the Andes, were forced to eat their dead teammates in order to survive. It's an interesting story that makes you realize their ordeal was as much mental as it was physical. Recommended.
