crazy!!! didn't always love the writing style but the story is far and away interesting enough to make up for that

A truly (true!) incredible story that kept me gripped from beginning to end, and yet always felt perseverant and hopeful. This is one of those books you'll read and tell everyone about for weeks after.

I already knew this was a remarkable story, but it was so wonderful to find it so extremely well written.

This was shockingly boring to me. I know that’s not great to say about such a harrowing true story, but I just did not enjoy reading it at all. And it wasn’t because of the cannibalism. I appreciated the survivors grit and how dedicated they were to making it out alive. However, I felt like the book was incredibly repetitive. I kept thinking I had accidentally flipped back a few pages and was re-reading the same passage on fighting over cigarettes. The actual people definitely are inspiring and fascinating. But what I expected to be a fast past survival story ended up feeling like a real slog.
